Frugal Summer Fun Idea: $1 Kids Movies at Regal and Cinemark!

Summer is in FULL swing so I’m always on the lookout for FUN yet FRUGAL activities to keep my boys busy!  One of our favorite activities are the $1 movies at Regal’s Summer Movie Express.

For nine weeks, participating Regal Theater locations offer $1 kids movies on Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 10 am.  Best of all a  portion of the proceeds will benefit the Will Rogers Institute.  While these movies are not new releases, they are kid favorites such at The LEGO movie, Epic, Turbo and more.  Please note that some movies will fill up fast so you may want to be there about 15 minutes early.

What’s Showing?? While some theaters may vary, The LEGO movie and Free Birds is showing at most theaters.

What’s fun about these movies is that you just never know who you’ll run into.  Check out who my friend Althea and I bumped into just last week at Regal Theater. Yep, that’s right Channing Tatum!

With the July 4th holiday coming up, what better way to than to celebrate at Cedar Point!  To help you celebrate, Cedar Point is offering many great deals all July 4th weekend long!  Here are a few Cedar Point deals you won’t want to miss!

FREE Admission for Military

All active, retired and honorably-discharged members of the United States Armed Forces will receive complimentary admission into both parks, Monday through Sunday, June 30-July 6!! Free admission available at park ticket windows only. Must show valid ID (active duty ID, retired personnel ID, VA ID, copy of DD-214 discharge papers and photo ID). Armed Forces friends & family ticket is $38.99 per one-day ticket with valid ID (limit 6).

Cedar Point Money-Saving Offers

Guests can purchase a special, limited-time four pack of tickets good for one-day admission into Cedar Point for only $160. That’s a savings of nearly $80! Or, guests can save big when they get a four pack of tickets to Cedar Point and four Single Meal Deals for only $200. That’s only $50 per person for admission into Cedar Point and a meal. These deals are only available online.

Fantastic Fireworks!

Cedar Point will host not one, but two nights of fabulous fireworks displays: Friday night, July 4 and Saturday night, July 5. Also included in this year’s show will be aerial performances by Bill Leff Airshows and the E Team Skydivers. Both displays will begin at approximately 10 p.m., just above the Cedar Point Beach and after the end of Cedar Point’s popular Luminosity show.

Stars and Stripes Celebration

In addition to those great money-saving offers and two nights of fireworks, Cedar Point will help commemorate the holiday weekend with numerous other special events and activities, including:

· The Johnsonville Big Taste Grill, the world’s largest mobile grilling machine, will be serving up delicious brats along the Cedar Point midway Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 4-6

· An All-American Picnic, featuring a special menu with ribs, chicken, smoked pork chops, corn-on-the-cob and more, will be available at Midway Market, June 30 through July 6

· The legendary Air Force Band of Flight – Wright Brass and Systems Go will perform patriotic tunes for guests in Frontiertown, near Skyhawk, at 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 5

· The high-flying E Team Skydivers will thrill and wow guests of all ages during the National Anthem at 10 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday, July 4-5

· Guests can play “Cornhole with a Pro” with Matt and Bret Guy from the American Cornhole Association from 4-7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5

· Red, White and Blue pie-eating contests will be held for adults and kids near the Town Hall Museum in Frontiertown at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, July 4-5

Looking for a frugal night out with the family?  Take them to a FREE outdoor movie!  There are many locations nationwide that offer FREE outdoor movies but one of the closest to me is at Crocker Park in Westlake, Ohio.

Every Thursday evening, through August 28th, Crocker Park in Westlake, Ohio will be offering their Summer Movies in the Park!    These FREE, outdoor, family movies are located in the West Park behind GameStop. They begin at dusk and usually end around 10:45pm.

Make sure to come early to get a good seat and bring a blanket or chair and some snacks from home.  If you’d rather there are a few eateries nearby such as Auntie Anne’s Pretzels where you can purchase snacks and bring them back to your seat.

Frugal Summer Fun: FREE Library Reading Program!

Looking for some frugal summer fun?  Head over to your local library and sign your kiddos up for the summer reading program.

The Summer Reading Program is offered at just about every local library and is definitely one of our favorite frugal activities to do as a family.  The library summer reading program allows kids to earn rewards or chances to earn prizes en exchange for reading books.  The programs vary from library to library but usually kids just pick the books, fill out the paper and then turn it into the library.  Each library has different giveaways and rewards but all are FUN!

Even better, many libraries open this program up to all members of the family from baby to adult. Even before our oldest was able to read, our library allowed my son to earn points for the books that I read to him.  Many libraries even offer a teen and adult summer reading program which will also offer drawings, prizes and more. Depending on your library you may be offered weekly reading rewards, chances to win prizes, or even an end of the season party.
