Hey locals!  As part of my “Winter Family Fun” series, I’m bringing you another awesome giveaway!

As a child my adventure-loving father would take us to The Cleveland Metroparks, Chalet in Strongsville, Ohio just about every winter.  I just loved to zoom down that chute with the wind in my hair!  Back then we my dad would have to carry the toboggan up the steps but new this year is a toboggan lift, so no heavy lifting is necessary.  Of course there are still a lot of steps to climb, but think of all the exercise you’ll get!

The Chalet in Mill Stream Run Reservation, which was the first refrigerated toboggan slide IN THE WORLD,  is conveniently located between Routes 42 and 82 in Strongsville, Ohio.   The two 1,000-foot refrigerated ice chutes operate with or without snow through mid-March, weather permitting.

Hours of operation:
Open through March 9, 2014 (Weather permitting)

  • Thursdays (January [excluding January 2, 2014], February and March): 6 – 10 p.m.
  • Fridays: 6 p.m.–10:30 p.m.
  • Saturdays: Noon–10:30 p.m.
  • Sundays: Noon–5 p.m.

Ticket prices:

  • Adult (all-day ticket): $10
  • Child 11 and Younger (all-day ticket): $8
  • One-Ride Ticket: $4
  • School and College ID Night – Thursdays, $7 with school ID

Rules and Regulations:

  • Children 11 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All children must be at least 42 inches tall to ride.
  • All riders must wear gloves or mittens. (Heavy gloves recommended)
  • Cleveland Metroparks is not responsible for injuries or personal property.
  • No outside food or beverage permitted inside Chalet building
  • Ticket sales end one hour before closing
  • Riders must carry toboggans to the top of the hill, in the event the toboggan lift is not operation

Even on cold days, The Chalet is a great place to visit as there is a large indoor area complete with seats and concession area.  This area is perfect for warming up in between your rides or for those in your group who would rather watch.

Monster Jam Cleveland Party in the Pits

A sold-out event year after year, Monster Jam’s Party in the Pits runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15th and Sunday February 16th, prior to the 2:00 p.m. show. The pre-show pit party gives fans (with a pit pass and show ticket) the chance to see these larger-than-life monster trucks up close, meet the drivers behind the wheel, take pictures and get autographs! Pit passes will be available for $10 online at theQarena.com after tickets have been purchased and at the Quicken Loans Arena box office, while supplies last.

Monster Jam Military Appreciation Night – Friday, February 14th, 7:00 p.m.

My boys are beyond excited about this movie!!  I’m mean, BEYOND!  Each time the commercial comes on, they get quiet (which you can imagine does not happen often) and then at the conclusion, I’m asked by all three when we are going…over and over and over again.

The LEGO® Movie officially opens on February 7, 2014 but I’m giving away 5 family 4-packs of passes to see a FREE screening on Saturday, February 1st at Cinemark Valley View at 10:00 am.   I’ll be there with my family so I hope to be able to meet some of you!

The specialty pizza features Sacco’s thin crust dough topped with slices of sautéed beef, caramelized onions, roasted mushrooms and sweet peppers topped with a variety of specialty cheeses. Tony Sacco’s distinct taste comes from a custom-built coal oven that burns pure anthracite coal from Pennsylvania.  The internal temperatures reach over 1,000 degrees which crisps the outer crust while leaving a smoky chewy center.

The menu isn’t just pizzas, but features a variety of calzones, sandwiches, salads and appetizers including a variety of wings, sausage and peppers, and homemade hummus. Everything is handmade to order with the freshest and finest ingredients.  The restaurant houses no freezers, fryers or microwaves and uses a separate water filtration system which allows the dough to have the freshest flavor.
