Have a BLAST at Swings-n-Things ~ Olmsted Township, Ohio

July 24, 2018 by racheljk 43 Comments

***Disclosure: I was invited to visit Swings-n-Things and received complimentary Karts Plus passes, as well as complimentary game room play and food. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.***

Swings-N-Things ~ Olmsted Township

Exclusive Swings-N-Things Coupon ~ Use the word “couponing” and snag $7 off the Karts Plus Pass Wristband online. It’s already discounted $3.00 online so you’ll save a total of $10!! The Karts Plus Pass includes UNLIMITED rounds of Miniature Golf, rides on the Grand Prix Go-Karts, rides on the Rookie Track, rides on the Wet-N-Wild Bumper Boats, unlimited play in Kids Korner, and $3 in Game Play. See more details here.

Summer is in full swing! Looking for something fun to do in northeast Ohio? Take the family to Swings-N-Things in Olmsted Township. There’s almost too much kid’s fun to fit it all in! This all year-round indoor and outdoor activity center is jam packed with activities for kids and those who are young at heart.

I love being able to take my kids to places that I went when I was younger. It’s so fun to see the excitement that I had when I was their age! Swing-N-Things is that kind of place. I remember going there with my parents as a child and with my friends as a teen. In fact, I even remember having a few dates there. 😉

My family recently visited Swings-N-Things  and it was a fun-filled day. We started out on the bumper boats because MAN was it a hot one. Just a few minutes on them and we cooled right off. Keep in mind that since these boats come with a water squirter you will get wet! It was so much fun!

Want to feel what it’s like to be an Nascar driver? Then just head out to the Grand Prix Go-Kart track and get behind the wheel! Our whole family drove the larger race tracks. While my youngest two were too short to drive themselves, they enjoyed riding along with my husband and I.

We zoomed around the tracks and had a blast! If you have little ones,  they can drive their own race cars on a smaller track. Even though my oldest could drive on the bigger track, he still took a chance to race his brothers on this one as well.

Grab a putter and challenge your family to a game of miniature golf. You can choose one of the two award winning 18 hole courses or try your hand at both. Both courses are beautifully decorated and include a 35′ high Magical Castle, a giant Lighthouse and water-churning sawmill. It’s really fun in the evening, when the fountains become illuminated with hundreds of colored lights!

If you want to cool off, head inside. At Swings-N-Things kids can enjoy classic video games to test their skills along with family favorites such as air hockey and Skeeball. A family favorite is the fishing game; they could play this for hours. They loved reeling in that big fish and they were all REALLY good at it! This area also boasts a 4-lane small scale bowling alley.  With smaller bowling balls and no special shoes required, your whole family can join in.

If you have smaller ones, head to Kids Korner. This giant indoor playground is where kids 10 years and under can climb, crawl and slide all day long. Keep in mind that a wristband is required in this area, as are socks. If you forget socks, you can purchase a pair at the game desk.

You’ll want to come hungry to Swing-N-Things! We tried their delicious pizza and oh-so-yummy ice-cream. It was a perfect pairing. Did you know that they have been making their own homemade ice cream for over 30 years? You can choose from a wide variety of flavors, but I warn you, you may want to try them all.

Adults, Swings-N-Things now has an area perfect for you to hang out too. Opening just a few weeks ago, Inside The Park Taproom & Wine Bar, offers tables with ample seating, a long bar with chairs and a TV so you can keep up to date on the latest game. This bar offers craft beers, wine, soft drinks and clubhouse fare. On weekdays it opens at 2pm and on weekends it opens at noon. Please keep in mind that all alcohol must be consumed inside the bar.

With all of the activities above along with paintball, mini bowling, and batting cages, you can see why this family-owned and operated business is a perfect place to spend a summer day with your family. Best of all, I want to help you do just that, I have 4 Karts Plus passes to give away! The Karts Plus pass includes unlimited rounds of miniature golf, unlimited Grand Prix Go Kart and Rookie Track rides, unlimited Wet-n-Wild bumper boats rides, unlimited play in Kids Korner, and $3 off game room play.

Four Things You’ll LOVE About Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo

July 12, 2018 by racheljk 2 Comments

Disclosure: We were invited on a multi-day media trip. Entry fees were included in our stay. Regardless, all opinions are my own.

Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo

A couple weeks ago my family and I visited Fort Wayne, Indiana. While less than three hours away from the Cleveland, Ohio area, we had never been before and couldn’t wait to explore the city. Fort Wayne is a city in Northeast Indiana and there is a lot to see and do, which makes it a perfect weekend trip for the family!

One must-see area is the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo. Don’t let the name fool you, this isn’t just a zoo for the kiddos. Ranked consistently as one of the top zoos in the USA, we were really impressed with Fort Wayne’s Children’s Zoo. Interactive exhibits and 40 acres of animals including lions, hyenas and monkeys make this is a must for any animal lover. Here are four reasons we thought the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo was pretty awesome!

Unique Rides at Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo:

Yes, rides! Of course a lot of zoos have a train or carousel rides (they have those too), but very few have a log ride and skyride. Tucked into the African Journey area, you can hop on the Sky Safari which will take you up into the treetops. You’ll glide 38 feet into the air while grabbing a bird’s eye view of lions, zebras, geese and more.

Ready for another adventure? Hop on the Crocodile Creek Adventure Ride, in the Australian Adventure section of the zoo. Here you’ll climb into your own dugout canoe and explore The Outback. Best of all, there is no paddling required.

Want more? Your whole family can take a ride on a miniature train, or take a spin on a colorful creature on the carousel ride.

The rides cost only TWO tokens. Each token only cost a $1 each and are available at machines located throughout the zoo. Want a deal? You can get six coins for just $5.00 so plan ahead if you think you’ll be riding a few.

Gorgeous Grounds at Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo:

There are four main areas to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo: African Journey, Australian Adventure, Central Zoo and Indonesian Rainforest. Each area is unique in what it offers in regards to animals and exhibits, but one theme that is carried throughout are the beautiful grounds. From the lush grass in the African Journey to the shark cut-out in the Australian Adventure (which is perfect for pictures), you’ll fall in love with all there is to see beyond the animals.

Up Close With the Animals at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo:

If you are at the zoo, you’ll want to see the animals of course! No worries here, The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, has the most ferocious beasts such as the African lion and Sumatran Tiger, to the most adorable creatures you’ve ever seen, like the prairie dog and sea lion.

In addition to just seeing the animals, you can also get up close and personal with some of them too. For the twelve and under kiddies, the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo offers up pony rides for just a few tokens. Or, the whole family canvisit the farm where kids of all ages can brush a goat, and say hi to the pigs for no extra cost.

Stingray Bay which features a 20,000 gallon saltwater tank filled with stingrays, can not be missed. We loved reaching over the walls and touching the stingrays that swam by. This area is completely safe for all guests and is included in your zoo ticket.

Have you ever fed a giraffe? They sure were hungry when we stopped by and happily chewed on the leaf lettuce that was available for purchase. They were adorable!

Delicious Food at Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo:

If you want to bite into some delicious dishes, The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo has you covered.  You can grab pizza and salads at Tree Tops Cafe in the Indonesian Rainforest or grab popcorn and snacks at the Pony Express in the Central Zoo. Stop in at the Market Oasis in the African Journey section and you will find hot-off-the-grill specialties and snacks. For our lunch we went to Ray’s Barefoot Grill. They specialize in burgers, sandwiches, wraps, salads and more. I loved that they offered a daily special, so I chose the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It was delicious!

Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is open daily at 9AM with the last admission at 7PM. The zoo closes at 8PM. Zoo admission is $14.00 for adults, $10 for children, and $12.00 for seniors. Babies ages 1 and under are free. The Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is a reciprocal zoo which means if you have a membership to another participating zoo you’ll save 50% on admission.

We spent four hours at the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo but could have spent much longer. The amazing animals, fun rides, delicious food, and gorgeous grounds made our first visit to Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo memorable. We can’t wait to go back!

Ghostly Manor Sandusky, Ohio ~ 8 Attractions All Under One Roof!

June 19, 2018 by racheljk Leave a Comment

Disclosure: My family was invited out to see all that Ghostly Manor offers. All attractions were free for review. Regardless, all opinions are my own.

Ghostly Manor Thrill Center ~ Sandusky, Ohio

Looking for some summer fun? Take the family to Ghostly Manor Thrill Center in Sandusky, Ohio. This family fun center has a ton to offer everyone in your family, from your youngest tike to your teens, even for you adults.

Ghostly Manor Thrill Center has been featured on The Travel Channel’s “Best Places I’ve Ever Been” series and recognized by FORBES magazine.  This indoor venue offers up a plethora of entertainment attractions and is located just 2 miles from the Roller Coaster Capital of the World, Cedar Point.

So what does Ghostly Manor have for your family? A little bit of everything! Try your skills in Wizard’s Journey indoor mini golf, your get some chills in the Ghostly Manor Haunted House. The XD 4D Motion Theater is fun or let your kids bounce to their delight in the bounce house! Seriously, there is so much to do that you could spend the whole day.  Best of all, you can pay individually for each activity or choose a money saving package deal.

As soon as we walked in, the kids ran straight to the 4D XD Theater.  This ride allows you to pick from five action-packed movie experiences from an under the sea adventure to a trip down a snowy, pine-covered mountainside.  Before the movie starts you are given 3D glasses and are belted into an oversized seat. This ride is so fun, you may want to ride a few times.

My middle son has been begging to try an Escape Room so I was really glad to see this new addition to Ghostly Manor. While we weren’t able to “escape” in the one hour time limit (hey, I was the only adult 😉 ), we had a lot of fun trying! Bring the whole family and try out the clues. Since everything can be moved around and searched it’s great for both young and old!

While I ordered lunch, my boys played on the indoor play area. This play area is HUGE and they had a blast. In fact, it was hard to get them to come down and eat. In addition to this area they also have inflatables in the back area where smaller kids can zoom down slides and bounce to their content.

Hungry? Ghostly Manor has you covered. I ordered chicken fingers, fries, a pretzel and boneless wings for us to share. I chose the spicy garlic and they were amazing! Seriously, I’ve been to wing places and this tops most of them. If you like spicy, these are a must try. The menu at Ghostly Manor has a lot of choices and it’s much more than the usual fare, so bring your appetite.

After lunch we played putt-putt on their indoor course. This interactive 3D course, was so fun. It was bright and even had some surprises along the way. Be sure to look around as there is a lot to see.

Another new attraction at Ghostly Manor was the Laser Maze. In this area you can test your skills and agility to see if you can make it to the top 10 leaderboard or race against time while maneuvering your way through hundreds of laser beams. My kiddos loved competing with each other to see who could get the highest score.

Relive your youth and skate around on the arena floor. That’s right, Ghostly Manor has skating too! In fact, they offer roller skates, inline skates and even scooters. You choose what’s most fun!

To end our day, we played some games in the arcade area. From action to claw machines, from skilled games to family fun, there are a lot to choose from.

One area we didn’t dare go into was the Ghostly Manor Haunted House. There was a school group in there that sounded like they were having a blast but I think we may need to wait a few more years for that spooky attraction.|

Ghostly Manor is open most days from noon – 10pm in the summer but hours can vary. Check out their schedule here. Prices can vary per attraction but you’ll save a bundle if you purchase a pass. They currently offer three

Thrill Pass – $25
Ghostly Manor Haunted House, Wizards Journey 3D Mini Golf, XD Motion Theater & Roller Skating

Junior Thrill Pass – $22
Bounce Houses**, Wizards Journey 3D Mini Golf, XD Motion Theater, Play Area** & Roller Skating

Jump, Climb & Skate Pass – $11
Bounce Houses**, Play Area** & Roller Skating

Even better, in the fall and winter months (when the kids are in school), every Wednesday from 4 – 8pm is Family Night! Family Fun Night is only $5.00/person and includes the Bounce Houses (12yrs & under/min.34″ tall), Play Area, and Skating with your choice of skates, roller blades, or a scooter. You also get two slices of pizza and a drink! What a crazy good deal!

If you are looking for some summer fun, be sure to check out Ghostly Manor in Sandusky, Ohio!

The city was buzzing last night! Not only was @shu The city was buzzing last night! Not only was @shuckedmusical at @playhousesquare but there was a @cleguardians game and a @cavs playoff game! What a gorgeous evening to enjoy our vibrant city! 🌽 After dinner, we saw @shuckedmusical musical and y’all… it was a-maize-ing! From the moment the curtain rose, I was all ears. The jokes were corny in the best way, the cast was pop-pin’, and the music? Straight up buttery smooth. Big shoutout to the writers for not husking around with the humor—this show shucks in all the right ways. I laughed, I teared up (maybe from the laughter), and I left the theater feeling like one happy kernel. Whether you're a theater buff or just stalk-ing a good time, go see Shucked. [ad] Last night, we flew to Neverland! 🧚‍♀️🌟
My sister and I had the BEST time seeing @peterpanthemusical at @playhousesquare and it was pure magic from start to finish! The sets were stunning, the flying scenes were jaw-dropping, and the cast brought all the nostalgia and wonder to life in the most heartwarming way. 💫 From the moment Peter soared onto the stage, we were hooked (pun intended 😂). Captain Hook was delightfully dramatic, the Lost Boys were hilarious, and Tinker Bell? Totally stole the show. It’s the perfect mix of adventure, laughs, and just enough fairy dust to make you believe in magic again. 🏴‍☠️✨ 🎭 If you’re in Cleveland, don’t miss it — Peter Pan is only in town through April 13th at Playhouse Square! First stop: the American Museum of Natural History @amnh. We spent HOURS there and STILL didn’t see everything – definitely need to go back! 🦖✨ We took a stroll through @centralparknyc on a chilly but sunny day and climbed to the top of the Belvedere Castle. 🏰 Then, we went to an incredible concert at @townhallnyc where the orchestra played music from one of my son’s favorite video games. 🎶 Bonus: He got to meet the Grammy award winning artist @crosenmusic who arranged the music. After the concert we grabbed dinner at a local Irish pub @thelongroomnyc and listened to live music. We even met some new friends from Brazil! We stayed out ‘til the wee hours chatting and having way too much fun!.
