Update: Walgreens recently made a small change to their Balance Rewards Program. When purchasing items that offer BR points you can only do one (one the same transaction) at a time. This means if you are purchasing a razor that is offering Balance points you can only purchase one at a time to ensure that you will receive points on BOTH orders.
A few weeks ago Walgreens rolled out their new Balance Rewards program. This program allows shoppers to use a savings card to not only get sale prices but to also earn points when you buy specific products. At this time, the Register Reward program that has been in place for years at Walgreens will still continue. If Balance Rewards is new to you, here are a few things that you need to know.
How do you get a card? You can enroll in-store, online or via Walgreens mobile app. Yep, that’s right Walgreens has a mobile app! I registered in-store last week and it only took a few minutes. Everything was done on the register with no paperwork to fill out. One nice perk is that you don’t have to have your card with you to get the savings; they can simply look up your Balance Rewards account with your phone number. I love that I will be able to grab some savings without having to actually carry another store card.

How do you earn points? Balance Rewards members will earn points when they purchase specified items in store or online. You can find these items throughout each weekly ad. You can even earn points on prescriptions and by usuing their “Walk with Walgreens” Program. You can see the points you earn at the bottom of your receipt or on your online account.
What can you do with your points? Here’s where it gets good. Points equal reward money. You’ll be able to grab your first reward for once you reach 5,000 points. While that may seem like a lot, it really isn’t since most offers start at 1,000. Here is how the points stack up.

Can you use coupons on the Balance Rewards deals? Yes you can. Using manufacturer’s coupons or Walgreens coupons on Balance Reward items will still allow you to earn points. In fact, you can even use a Register Reward to pay for a Balance Rewards item. You can also use your Balance Rewards points on Register Reward items. Just like Register Rewards, Balance rewards do not roll. This means you cannot pay with Balance Rewards and earn more points.
Do points expire? If you are an active member, all points will expire on a rolling 36 month basis. If you do not earn or redeem points for six consecutive months, your membership will be considered inactive and all points will expire.
