The Star Movie ~ A Family Movie To Ring In Holidays

Disclosure: I was invited to travel to LA for the press event for the movie The Star. My expenses were paid. Regardless all opinions are my own.

I grew up watching holiday classics with my family as we gathered around the TV during Christmas. This year’s release of The Star, opening Friday, November 17th, marks the addition of a new “Christmas classic” that is sure to delight families as it shares the true meaning of Christmas.

Last weekend my son, Mason, and I flew to Hollywood to hear all about the new movie, The Star, and interview a few of the stars of the movie too! While there, we catch a sneak peek of the movie and I’m bursting with excitement to share all about it!

What I love most about The Star is how the nativity story is told in a completely new way – through the animals who were there! Yes, you’ll still see the biblically-inspired story of Mary, Joseph, and the birth of Jesus but it includes a twist from some funny, inquisitive and witty animals. I love that The Star keeps to the “original” story while making it fun for the whole family.

The Star was a truly delightful movie and the soundtrack is amazing. I actually teared up when the song, Mary Did You Know came on during a touching scene with Mary. I loved how they were able to weave classic songs as well as providing some originals as well. The impressive soundtrack is filled with songs from Mariah Carey, Fifth Harmony and Casting Crowns.

While the storyline and the music create a backdrop the actors in the film give it a true voice. In fact, Director Timothy Reckart shared that the cast was a “dream come true” as every actor in the film was his first choice.  In the movie, you’ll hear familiar voices from stars such as Oprah Winfrey (Deborah the Camel), Gina Rodriguez (Mary), Zachary Levi (Joseph), Tyler Perry (Cyrus the Camel) and Ohio’s own, Patricia Heaton (Edith the Cow).

The Star introduces us to the loveable donkey, Bo, who dreams of escaping his duties working for the village miller and finding a new adventure in the outside world. When he escapes, he teams up with Ruth, the sheep and Dave, the dove and they set out to start a new life. Soon after he finds Mary and Joseph who are about to embark on their own adventure as they have been forced to travel to Bethlehem by royal decree. When King Herod discovers that they is soon to be a new king born he sends off a guard to find them. Bo and his friends along with three wisecracking camels set off to protect Mary, Joseph and the baby and become a group of unlikely heroes.

The Star movie while touching, is also filled with laughs which will keep your family giggling throughout the film. I hope you’ll bring your family out to see The Star this weekend! I can’t wait to hear what you think too!

The Star Opens in Theaters Nov 17th!

Get there early because before the show even starts, you can actually go on stage, interact with the cast, grab a beer at the pub-style counter, and maybe even dance a jig or two. How fun is that?! Once the performance begins, get ready — this toe-tapping, high-energy production will have you moving in your seat from the very first number. You’ll recognize a lot of the songs, and you might even discover a new favorite. I absolutely loved the traditional folk song! And fair warning… this show is very interactive! 🎺✨ Oh what a night! I caught the brand-new nationa 🎺✨ Oh what a night! I caught the brand-new national touring revival of Meredith Willson’s classic @musicmantour last night in Akron at E.J. Thomas Hall for the @broadwayakron series and I’m still smiling! This crowd-pleasing, six-time Tony-winning musical follows slick charmer Harold Hill, a fast-talking salesman who rolls into town planning to swindle the locals with promises of a boys’ band he can’t actually deliver. But his perfectly polished con hits a snag when he meets Marian Paroo, the sharp-witted librarian whose sincerity and heart just might turn this lovable rogue into someone real. The whole cast brought it last night from the high energy dance numbers to the tender ballads. The stars @elizabethdaiuto and @craigfirst were phenomenal delivering powerhouse vocals magnetic chemistry and performances that lit up the stage from start to finish. The energy, the costumes, the choreography, the music - pure Broadway magic on tour! If you love big classic musical numbers, charming comedy, and feel-good storytelling, don’t miss it. 🎟 One more performance TONIGHT (Feb 19)! Last night at @playhousequare, I experienced somet Last night at @playhousequare, I experienced something unforgettable. ✨ Seeing @suffsmusical live was deeply moving, soul-stirring, and powerful in a way that stays with you long after the curtain falls. I cried several times. Not quiet tears, but the kind that come from feeling seen, shaken, and inspired all at once. This Tony-winning musical tells the true story of the women’s suffrage movement in the United States, over a century old, yet aching with relevance today. It captures the courage, the conflict, and the cost of fighting for a voice. These women marched on Washington, protested outside the White House, endured hunger strikes, and risked everything for a future they might never personally benefit from. And watching it unfold through a brilliant, all-female cast makes the story hit even harder - raw, urgent, and electric. What struck me most is how alive this story feels. This isn’t history trapped in the past—it’s a reminder that progress is loud, uncomfortable, and often born from persistence when hope feels thin. Suffs doesn’t whisper its message; it sings it boldly: change only happens because people refuse to give up. It left me inspired, emotional, and reminded that voices, especially women’s voices, have always mattered, even when the world tried to silence them. This is a must-see! Suffs is at Connor Palace through Sunday, February 22nd, and tickets are still available. Trust me, go see it. Bring tissues. Bring friends. Leave changed. ❤️ #hosted #BroadwayCleveland #SUFFStheMusical #SUFFSTour
