Located in nearby Kidron, the popular Lehman’s Hardware Store is not to be missed. Don’t leave before stopping for a free sample of fudge. I tried two different kinds and they were simply delicious. Be sure to bring your camera as there are so many picture worthy backdrops from the London styled phone booth to the garden area outside.

Where to Stay In Wayne County ~ Market Street Inn Wooster, Ohio

July 1, 2016 by racheljk 1 Comment

Disclosure: I was invited on a one night stay to Wooster, Ohio. My overnight accomodations were offered in exchange for a review. Regardless, all opinions are my own.

The rolling hills and scenic farm lands are just the beginning of what Wayne County can offer visitors and residents. Recently, I took a trip to Wayne County and simply amazed with all that this county has. In addition to being home to the world’s largest Amish population, Wayne County offers an abundance of cultural activities, events, restaurants and shops. Whether you are looking for a peaceful get-a-way to a cozy bed & breakfast, a shopping experience in a wide variety of stores, or an entertaining cultural event, you can find just what you’re looking for in Wayne County.

I’ll be sharing a three part series about my trip to Wayne County including: Where to Stay in Wayne County, Shopping in Wayne County and Eating in Wayne County. I simply can’t wait to share all that I discovered about this heartland of Ohio.

Where to Stay in Wayne County – Market Street Inn, Wooster, Ohio

When on a little get-away, staying at a Bed and Breakfast is my favorite! They are cozy and quaint and can offer personalized service that can often be overlooked at some hotels. Located in beautiful downtown Wooster, the Market Street Inn is a gorgeous 1897 historic landmark. This three-story Victorian features original woodwork, hardwood floors, spectacular stained-glass windows, and so much more. All 6-guest rooms offer private baths and luxurious bedding. They even offer a large 2 bedroom suite on the first floor.

The Lincoln Room ~ Market Street Inn

If you want to venture out of your room, you can relax on their large porch (it’s the perfect spot for reading a book!) or browse their library. One of my favorite features is their hospitality room. This room, located on the second floor offers a Keurig, glasses and a refrigerator stocked with bottled water. If you have bottle of wine this is the perfect place to keep it chilled.

The Bexley Room ~ Market Street Inn

Each morning a full gourmet breakfast is served. The morning I was there, fresh baked scones, homemade granola, and amazing eggs wrapped in warm bacon was served. It was the perfect opportunity to chat with other travelers and the owners. The food was absolutely delicious and made for a wonderful start of the day!

If you are ready to explore the downtown area, The Market Street Inn is in the perfect location! The Inn is within walking distance to The College of Wooster, tons of boutique and thrift shops and many amazing restaurants such as City Square Steakhouse. If Amish Country is your passion, the Inn is just a 20 minute drive from the Nation’s largest Amish community.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Review ~ A Perfect Stay For Coaster Loving Families!

June 22, 2016 by racheljk 18 Comments

Disclosure: My family was offered one free night at Carowinds Camp Wilderness in exchange for a review. Regardless, all opinions are my own.carowinds camp wilderness review

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Review

One thing my family loves to do is travel! If we aren’t on vacation then we are planning one or at least dreaming of one. While I love so many things about my Cedar Point Platinum Pass, being able to visit other parks without any admission fee is on the top of the list. Did you know that there are a total of 14 Cedar Fair parks and 8 of them are within an eight hour drive of Northeast Ohio?

This past April, my family stopped in to Carowinds in North and South Carolina (yep, this amusement park is in two different states) and stayed overnight at Carowinds Camp Wilderness.  If you haven’t yet, be sure to read my post, FIVE Things You’ll Love About Carowinds!  While it wasn’t our first visit to Carowinds, it was our first time staying overnight on the property. Read on to hear all about my Carowinds Camp Wilderness Review.

Carowinds Camp Wilderness hosts three different types of lodging to fit just about any budget. These include, cabins, a tent and RV campground and the Great Wilderness Lodge. While these are all located in the same area, they offer different amenities. No matter which one you choose, you’ll hearing the zooming coasters and gleeful screams of patrons in the park as Camp Wilderness is located right outside the gates.

carowinds Camp Wilderness review cabins

Carowinds Camp Wilderness Cabins:

A stay in a Camp Wilderness cabin is my kind of “camping”. When we pulled up to our cabin my boys couldn’t wait to get inside and sleep in a real cabin! As soon as we opened the door the raced around to check it out. Each gorgeous cabin features two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with two bunk beds. My boys loved having their own room…and we did too! There is a futon couch that converts into a double bed (linens not provided for futon) in the living room and the whole cabin can accommodate up to eight guests.

carowinds camp wilderness review master bedroom

I will say that the mattresses on the beds were thin but it is a cabin afterall and we weren’t expecting a pillowtop mattress. My boys didn’t seem to notice at all and after tossing a few extra pillows on our bed that we had brought from home, my hubby and I slept well. Keep in mind that the bed in the main bedroom is only a double but that means you’ll just get to snuggle more.

Both bedrooms had outlet plugs so we were all able to charge our phones, kindles and computers at night. There was a night stand on my side of the bed which was well needed to hold my extra things. The bunk beds in my boys room had a railing on the top bunk for safety which was perfect for my little ones.

carowinds camp wilderness cabins review kitchen
These fully appointed cabins also have a kitchenette featuring a sink, range stove top, microwave, coffee maker and a mid-size refrigerator plus a dining room table with four chairs.  You won’t be roughing it in these cabins, as they also have satellite television, air conditioning, a restroom with shower and hot water plus a front porch swing round out the amenity set.

Our cabin also came with plates, cups, silverware and a couple pans. I loved that the refrigerator was able to keep all of our cooler things cold so we could load back up on ice before the trip home.

Gervasi Vineyard, Canton, Ohio – A Gorgeous Place to Stay and Delicious Place to Eat!

June 21, 2016 by racheljk 10 Comments

Gervasi Vineyard review 2

**Find me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!**

Original post: July 2014

A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I went away for the night without the kids.  While I love spending time with my boys, I find that it is really important to get away with my husband to relax, unwind, and renew.  As a mama of three young and rambunctious boys, it’s hard to plan time away, but when we do, we always find it worth it.

When researching our overnight trip, we found a gem called Gervasi Vineyard in Canton, Ohio.  While the pictures were gorgeous online, I was not prepared for what we saw when we arrived.  As we approached the tree-lined entrance, I immediately knew that we in for a treat!

Gervasi Vineyard review1

The Grounds:

Situated in beautiful Canton, Ohio, Gervasi boasts nearly six acres of vineyards carefully sited on their historic fifty-five-acre farm property. You will pass the North Vineyard on your left as you come into the property, which becomes a stunning backdrop for weddings and events, and the site of their popular seasonal vineyard dinners. The South Vineyard is located towards the back of the property just past the orchard and along the roadway to Gervasi Village and the Crush House Restaurant.

In addition to the vineyards, Gervasi offers restaurants, overnight accommodations in six different villas, and access to Stark Parks walking/bicycling trails.  They offer many events throughout the year such as art shows, live music, and dance classes.  Gervasi even hosts a free public winery tour each Saturday.

Gervasi Vineyard review 3

We checked in at the Villa Grande, which upholds its name in beauty and grandeur. This facility houses conference rooms, a ballroom, and executive board rooms. The Cucina, a Culinary and Wine Education Center which is also located here, offers culinary or wine experiences that can be incorporated into your special event, if desired.

Gervasi Vineyard review 6

As you walk the grounds at Gervasi Vineyard, you truly feel as though you are far from Ohio.  I was amazed by the well cared for lawns, gorgeous floral arrangements and detailed landscaping. When you come to Gervasi you can finally relax.

The Villas:

Once we had our key to our villa, we couldn’t wait to get inside! Gervasi Vineyard offers six separate villas which are each comprised of four individual suites (24 suites). Guests have the option of reserving an individual suite or an entire villa (how fun to bring a group of friends).

As we walked into our luxurious Tuscan styled villa, we were simply amazed by our room. The spacious lobby of our villa featured a living room, patio, fireplace, microwave, refrigerator, and much more. Before heading to our suite, we grabbed a few complimentary drinks in the refrigerator.

Gervasi Vineyard 4

When we turned the key to our room, I was in awe by the size and decor of our suite.  This is hands down, the most beautiful room I’ve ever stayed at; I felt like a princess. Each suite includes a cozy fireplace and a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower and even heated towel bars. Additional amenities in each suite include TV monitor (even in the bathroom), luxury linens, flat-screen television and refrigerator.  There are even a robe and slippers in the closet.

Gervasi Vineyard 5

The king-sized bed in our room was so comfortable and had a ton of pillows to make us feel right at home. Forget a toiletry item?  Gervasi Vineyard has you covered and will offer a free toiletry item for any that you missed.  Want to enhance your stay? Gervasi offers floral arrangements, chocolate, wine, and baskets that can all be brought to your room.

Each morning, every suite is delivered a complimentary Italian-style continental breakfast featuring house-made pastries, granola and fresh fruit. Your breakfast is even delivered in a rustic wine box. It was so nice to wake up without having to worry about leaving the room for breakfast! Oh, and the breakfast was simply scrumptious!

The Restaurants:

Gervasi offers three different restaurants on the property. The Piazza is their outdoor patio offering seasonal al fresco dining with beautiful lakeside views.  The Crush House®, their newest restaurant and wine bar, offers a casual menu with bold decor. The Bistro restaurant, where reservations are encouraged for lunch and dinner, includes an extensive rustic Italian menu served in small and large plate portions for sharing.  Both The Crush House and The Piazza offer events throughout the year, such as live music to make your evening even more special.

Gervasi Vinyard the Piazza

The evening that we went the weather was perfect, so we chose to eat at the Piazza for both meals.  The Piazza requires no reservations and is located outside on the patio. They offer casual dining, where you order from the front counter and your food is delivered to your table.

While waiting for our meal, we watched others play Bocce ball and corn hole right out on the lawn and took in the gorgeous views of the lake. Throughout the summer and fall, this restaurant also offers live music Thursday – Sunday evenings which would only add to its charm.

While the prices may vary in each restaurant, The Piazza pricing was far less than I was expecting. On top of that, our food was delicious and our portions were ample. Next time we visit we may venture to the other restaurants, but I can’t imagine being any more pleased.

My husband and I had such a wonderful time at Gervasi Vineyard that we are planning on making it a yearly getaway. From wonderful accommodations, beautiful grounds, and delicious food, Gervasi Vineyard is the perfect place for a romantic dinner or weekend getaway.

Gervasi Vineyard

Disclosure:  All opinions are my own.  This is not a paid post. My overnight accommodations were complimentary for the purpose of review.  All food and beverages from the restaurant were purchased.

5 Things You’ll Love about Carowinds!

June 7, 2016 by racheljk Leave a Comment

Things to do at Carowinds 2

**Want more deals?  Find me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!**

One of the best perks of a Cedar Point Platinum passes, is being able to visit any other Cedar Fair amusement. Lucky for us who live in northeast Ohio, there are total of eight Cedar Fair parks all within an eight hour drive.  These include, Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, Wild Water Kingdom in Aurora, Ohio, Kings Island in Mason, Ohio, Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Kings Dominion in Doswell, Virginia, Michigan’s Adventure in Muskegon, Michigan and Carowinds on the border of both North and South Carolina. In fact, if you have a passport, Canada’s Wonderland in Toronto, Canada is just under a 5 hour drive. How neat is that?

what to do at carowinds

On our way back from Florida, my family stopped at Carowinds. In fact, it’s the perfect half way point between Orlando and Cleveland.  This is our second visit to Carowinds and we had a great time. So what is there to do at Carowinds? Here are my family’s top five things that we LOVE about Carowinds.

Don’t have season passes? Here are Carowinds ticket prices:

  • One day online ticket – only $42.99
  • Two day online ticket – only $62.99
  • After 4pm ticket – only $29.99

things to do at carowinds

#1 The Park is in TWO Different States:
One fun thing that I love about Carowinds is that it’s actually in two different states. At the entrance of the park you’ll see a white pathway which shows the division between North Carolina and South Carolina. Yes, you can actually stand to two different states at the same time. It’s the perfect opportunity to snap a picture!

things to do at carowinds review

#2 The Family Friendly Rides:
Carowinds offers up a lot of family friendly rides which are great for even your smallest kiddos. I really like that there are quite a few that aren’t at our home park of Cedar Point which makes it a real treat. I noticed that many of the kiddie rides seem a little larger than other parks that we’ve been too which is perfect for a mama with a little more meat on her bones. I was able to fit comfortably into every kiddie ride that I attempted.

My whole family loves Boo Blasters on Boo Hill, where you ride inside interactive Boo Blaster cars and challenge your friends to see who can capture the most ghosts! Another great one is the Flying Ace Balloon Race. This is not your typical kiddie ride but instead goes a bit higher than others I have rode. It’s fun enough for adults without  being too scary for the kiddies.

carowinds review
Be sure to also check out Planet Snoopy where they offer up a ton of rides for your kiddos. Best of all, parents can ride many too. Be sure to ride Woodstock’s Whirlybirds where pilots of all ages get a great panoramic view of Planet Snoopy from helicopter cars traveling on an elevated monorail. The Planet Snoopy area also offers up boat ride, a kiddy train and three kid-size roller coasters. My three little guys really liked the ride Peanuts Pirates! These mini pirate ships rotate a full 180 degrees as they quickly race  up and down along ocean waves. It had us all in fits of giggles.

New for the 2016 season, Carowinds introduced the world’s first intra-active 3-D attraction, Plants vs. Zombies™ Garden Warfare 3Z Arena. After entering a state-of-the-art arena and picking a team – plants or zombies – guests are immersed within the Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 universe in an epic battle to find the golden gnome. Packed with astonishing effects and zany action, players compete for high scores and bragging rights.

This new attraction is exclusive to Carowind and allows players to interact with the opposing team’s screen. Th arena is decked out with 3-D technology, massive screens, surround sound and motion-based seats.  This is a ride not to miss!

carowinds fury 325

#3 The Amazing Coasters
If you head to Carowinds, riding the roller coasters is a MUST! In the 2015 season, Carowinds debuted Fury 325! Riders go to the peak height of 325 feet following a dramatic 81-degree drop. There is also a massive 190-foot tall barrel turn and a high-speed S-curve reaching speeds of up to 95 mph. This is one AWESOME coaster that you’ll want to ride over and over again.

Another one not to miss is Intimidator. You’ll head up a 232-foot hill and plunge at a 74-degree angle. Racing in speeds up to 80 mph, riders catch some major airtime on the second hill, which is a whopping 178-feet. The staggered cars on this ride make you feel like you are riding all alone. If your a daredevil try an outside cart and ride at night…simply amazing.

Carowinds offers up many other coasters including Nighthawk a flying coaster that features eight inversions, most while flying face down and Afterburn which is a inverted floorless coaster. I really like that there are coasters here that are not offered at it’s sister park near us which allows you to have a whole new experience.

carowinds review ricochet

My littlest guy was over the moon that he was JUST tall enough to ride the “big coaster” at Carowinds, called Ricochet. This “Wild Mouse” coaster features a small four-seater car which twists, turns and drops it’s riders along a 1200 sq. ft track. It’s a favorite among my youngest two and it’s easy to see why.

carowinds carolina harbor waterpark

#4  The Expanded Waterpark

Locals to Carowinds are in for a real treat when the Carolina Harbor Waterpark opens on May 11th. This amazing renovations includes Surf Club Harbor, a27,000-foot wave pool, Seaside Splashworks, a water fortress with over 80 play elements and a 423-gallon tipping bucket and Blackbeard’s Revenge, a six-story tall water slide complex that features six exhilarating slides. On top of this they are also creating a couple of new spaces for those with little ones including areas with spray jets, interactive water play and more.

carowinds food review

#5 The Delicious Food

Step inside Carowinds and you’ll smell it right away! Carowinds sets the bar high when it comes to amusement park food. In fact, with 45 new menu items, you may just want to eat all day and catch the rides another time! Executive Chef, Kris Siuta and his culinary team have created some delicious dishes, including authentic Carolina cuisine like smoked BBQ and Lowcountry seafood.

carowinds food review

Our favorite place to eat at Carowinds is Harmony Hall. This large building hosts a cafeteria style setting with many options to choose from including BBQ, Italian, burgers and my personal favorite a fresh salad area.  I’ve ordered several salads and all were great. I would have never expected such an flavorful salad at an amusement park. In fact, I had a hard time keeping my husband’s fork out of my salad.

If you haven’t visited Carowinds, I’d strongly recommend you do! Carowinds is a great place to spend a day or even a few with your family and friends!
