safeHands Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer Review and Giveaway

September 10, 2013 by racheljk 32 Comments

safe Hands alcohol free hand sanitizer

safeHands Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer

Update: The winner is …. Danielle Petrella

Cold and flu season will be upon us soon.  To keep healthy, hand washing is always the best option, but when that’s not practical, hand sanitizers can do the trick.  With three little (and very active) little boys, I like to use a combination of both.

Recently, I was sent safeHands Alcohol Free Hand Sanitizer. While I love to keep my mine and my little ones hands clean I’ve always had a hard time using the some of the harsh sanitizers that are full of alcohol.  Recently I discovered that I have psoriasis which effects different areas of my body, especially my hands.  In the past, when I’ve used used other sanitizers I would wince in pain as the alcohol would get into the small cuts on my hand.  Not only that, but they would also dry out my hand which would cause more drying and cracking.  That’s no fun at all.

When I discovered safeHands alcohol free hand sanitizer, I knew I’d have to try it out.  I was able to try out two of their product lines, safeHands Classic (for adults) and safeHands Squirts (for children).  Both of these are the perfect size to fit inside your diaper bag, desk or purse. I loved that it comes out in a foam which stays put on little hands so they have a chance to rub it in.  This product also comes in a variety of pleasant scents that won’t leave your hands feeling slimely, dry or sticky.  Instead this non-toxic sanitizer left my hands clean, hydrated and free of pain (Did I mention that I love that it’s alcohol free??)

safeHands review
Designed by a doctor, I’m excited that this product is safe for children and the environment while still killing more than 99.99% of germs on contact.  Created with the active ingredient called Benzalkonium Chloride this sanitizer is tough on germs while still being gentle on skin.  No more dry and irritated skin!

SafeHands sanitizers come in 6 scents.  We loved them all:

Clean Linen
Fragrance Free
Cucumber Mint
Cool Blue
Bubble Gum
Tooty Fruity

With so many people getting sick, I like to do what I can to stay healthy.  I’m so excited that I found a product that is not only good for my kids but also the right fit for me. safeHands will not only keep our hands clean but will keep them soft in the process.  To snag your own safeHands or safeSquirts check them out online or at your local Target store.

Check them out on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Enter below and one winner will receive their own prize pack of safeHands!  You can enter each day.  Good luck!

Our Trip to Cleveland Botanical Gardens

Recently my friend suggested we take our boys on a day trip to the Cleveland Botanical Garden.  At first I was taken back that she would suggest such a place for 5 boys under 7 but man was I wrong.  What a fun day we had!

Conveniently located in University Circle and just minutes from downtown Cleveland, Cleveland Botanical Garden is a oasis filled with so many beautiful flowers and unique plants that it makes the city just slip away.  The Cleveland Botanical Garden boasts 20 gardens, Glasshouse Conservatory, a cafe, and gift shop and will keep you entertained for hours.

Our first stop was the The Glasshouse.  This large conservatory boasts two separate climate controlled areas which will make you feel like you have traveled half way across the world.  When we entered into the area of Madagascar, we were able to see some of the most unique plants in the world including one of the largest collections of Madagascan baobab trees.   My boys loved exploring the paths and meeting a real chameleon and cute tortoises.  You can even spot a few rare and colorful birds as well as touch “fuzzy plants”.

PicMonkey Collage2

As you walk out of the doors on Madagascar you enter into the balmy rainforest of Costa Rica.  This area just blew me away as my senses were on overload with all the sights, sounds, and smells.  From the towering trees (and I mean towering!!) to the abundance of butterflies I think you’ll love this place too.  You’ll even be able to walk through a stone grotto complete with a waterfall.  Before you leave be sure to head up to the canopy walk where you’ll be able to look down at all of the beauty this area holds.  Don’t forget your camera as you’ll be able to snag some great pictures as the feeding areas for both the butterflies and birds are on eye level.

Cleveland Botanical Garden

After leaving the Glasshouse we ventured outside to Katherine Phillip Geis Terrace to have our snack.  Located right nearby is a eatery with assorted snacks and drinks which offers indoor or outdoor seating.  This area has a 74 foot-long reflecting pool which holds a variety of plants, water lilies and small fish as well as is the main entrance into the other outdoor gardens.

With the well maintained landscaping and bright flowers and gorgeous views, I think the Cleveland Botanical Gardens is absolutely breathtaking!

Cleveland Botanical Garden

With so many paths and gardens to explore outside, we couldn’t wait to get started.  The first outdoor area we headed to was the Hershey Children’s Garden.  While I had seen pictures online, they were nothing compared to what I saw in person.  As soon as we entered through the gate all the boys rushed to different areas to explore.

The Hershey’s Children Garden is filled with a fountain, kid-sized structures, a treehouse and much more.  There are even special times during the day where children’s activities may be planned.  With so much to see and do my boys didn’t want to leave.

As we left the Children’s Garden we found that there were many other gardens too. One of the best things that I loved about Cleveland Botanical Garden was the the amount of areas where the boys could run, jump, and investigate.  There were so many nooks and crannies nestled inside each garden area.

As we walked along the paths we were able to see many of the different themed gardens such as, The Japanese, Woodland, and Inspirational Gardens.  With so many inviting benches, flowered arches, hidden bridges, and a bevy of plants and flowers we easily spent half of the day exploring.  I can’t to come back and visit during a different season!

Dinosaurs Alive at Cedar Point – Review

July 23, 2013 by racheljk 24 Comments

Most of you know how much my family loves Cedar Point! In fact we love it so much that each year we get season passes for the whole family. Not only are Cedar Point Season Passes a frugal summer activity but since the Cedar Point season lasts through the fall you’ll get almost 6 months of action-packed fun.

While we visit Cedar Point almost weekly we had not checked out the Dinosaurs Alive exhibit until just recently. Dinosaurs Alive is located inside Cedar Point and near the entrance of Camp Snoopy. With more than 50 life-size animatronic dinosaurs there is so much to see.

dinosaurs alive
My three boys were amazed to find dinosaurs hiding among the trees and in areas that looked like their natural habitat.  While we have been to a dinosaur exhibit before we have never seen dinosaurs quite like this.    These gigantic dinosaurs are life-sized and some soar high above.  I felt quite small standing next to a few of them and it made me thankful that they are now extinct.  Cedar Point has done an amazing job in creating such a true-to-life exhibit.

Cedar Point’s Dinosaurs Alive is not scary at all and geared towards kids of all ages.  With interactive consoles, for you to interact with as well as placecards at each area you’ll not only have a fun time but also learn a little along the way.  The animatronic dinosaurs that move as you walk by will really make you feel like you’ve just stepped back in time.

Dinosaurs Alive

One of my boys favorite areas was the Dino Dig Site which was conveniently located half way through.  This large area sand play area for kids has plenty of sand toys for kids to uncover a life-sized dinosaur skeleton. To make this area even more exciting, each day through August 31st a K’NEX classic white connector is buried in this area.  If you or your child finds it they will win a K’NEX K’NEXosaurus Rex Building Set.  Keep in mind that there is one winner per day.

Dinosaurs Alive

With an easy to navigate walkway this exhibit is open to strollers and wheelchairs.   I found that most of the exhibit was covered with trees so it was truly relaxing to stroll along even though it was a HOT day.

If you are in need of a little assistance or have a dino question there are several tour guides located throughout the exhibit that would love to help you out.  They are easy to spot in there tan uniform (see below).  My two oldest boys were full of questions and asked quite a few to each guide we encountered.  In fact they they even requested a picture with one.

Our family LOVED our time visiting Dinosaurs Alive and plan on making it a yearly stop.  With it only being $5 a ticket (with a paid Cedar Point ticket), it’s a frugal summer fun idea too!

Next time you head off to Cedar Point step back in time and check out the prehistoric island adventure called Dinosaurs Alive!

Maui Sands Resort (Sandusky, Ohio) Review and Overnight Stay Giveaway

April 10, 2013 by racheljk 123 Comments

1

This giveaway is now closed.

A few weeks ago my family and I headed to Maui!  Maui Sands Resort and Indoor Waterpark that is.

Maui Sands Resort is located in Sandusky, Ohio and just recently opened their large indoor waterpark.  When we first arrived we walked into a warm and inviting lobby decked out in full Hawaiian décor.  We were even greeted with leis by a friendly staff member at the front desk.  I loved the floor to ceiling windows located at the end of the lobby that allowed you to look right into the waterpark.  Once my kids looked in they just couldn’t wait to get their suits on!

ms1

We headed straight to our room to make a quick change…or at least I thought so.  When entering our room our boys were head over heels happy to find that they had their own area filled with two bunk beds and TV.  I must say that I too was excited that I wouldn’t have to watch cartoons that weekend as I found I had a separate TV.  Since the kids were so happy in their area we put off heading straight to the pool and my hubby and I were able to relax a little.  Sweet!

Our room was spacious and very clean.  I loved that the sink area was detached from the bathroom and provided ample counter space along with many outlets.  Since I had packed everything except shampoo and conditioner, I was delighted to see the toiletries were from Bath & Body Works.    I also loved that our adult room had a sliding door.  This made it feel like my hubby and I had our own room even with the kids right near by.   Our room also had a huge closet, mini fridge, coffee maker, and small desk.

One of my favorite features, hands down, was the keyless entry.  Every time we go to a hotel my husband and I have a conversation like this each time we leave the room.

“Do you have the room key?”
“I don’t, I thought you did”
Both of us search frantically for the keys.

At Maui Sands Resort and Indoor Waterpark you won’t have to spend time finding your keys because they are right there on your wrist.  See the picture in the bottom right corner?  Those are your keys.  Neat- O, huh?  To enter your room all you have to do is scan your bracelet.  I love this idea and wish more hotels offered this.

maui sands2
After a little rest we headed down to the waterpark.  The first thing I noticed was how bright and beautifully decorated it was. It was also VERY clean!  We headed straight to the Kai River for a few turns on the “not-so-lazy” river.  We loved that while it was family friendly there were a couple rapids and moved us right along.  On the Kai River you can even choose from a single or double tube.

If you have little ones, they’ll really enjoy two areas created just for them; MakaMaka Treehouse and Pineapple Bay.  The three-level treehouse is filled with small dump buckets, water cannons, a climbing rope and 4 slides.  The kids loved that they had slides geated just for them.  You’ll also want to check out the Pineapple Bay area which is for the smallest guests (under 52″).  While a lifeguard is present, the water is shallow enough to keep everyone safe.  Even my oldest son, who is seven, enjoyed hanging out here with his brothers and water toys.

For you thrill seekers, Maui Sands Resort has 4 slides that are full of twists and turns: Maui Wowie Bowl Slide, Hammerhead Plunge, Kana Storm and Hana Half Pipe.  You can reach up to 40 MPH as you zoom down the tubes either by yourself or with a friend.  My hubby and I really enjoyed all of these and we were even able to coax my 5 year old son to go; of course once he went one time he no longer needed coaxing.

Kiddie area with four slides
MakaMaka Treehouse

Coconut Cove: 12,000 square foot!
Vortex Pool
Toddler area with slide

Maui Wowie Bowl Slide
Coconut Cove with Vortex Pool in the back.

We loved the “not-so-lazy” Kai River

Looking for a little adventure?  Then challenge yourself on the Water Walk Crossing in the Coconut Cove!  This 12,000 sq ft. area of fun also houses water basketball hoops and the Vortex Pool.  The Vortex Pool is an actual whirlpool which will have you spinning in delight as it gently pushes you in around the perimeter.

Once you’re ready to relax you can head to one of two spas.  The Half Moon Lagoon is a huge  “all ages spa” where the whole family can enjoy a nice warm soak. My kids loved this area so much that it was one of the most requested attractions.  If you need a little time away then head to the second floor and relax in the adult only, rooftop Ka’anapali Spa.  While I loved my family-time at the waterpark I also enjoyed a little time away by myself.

1

After all this playing you’re sure to build up an appetite. We sure did, so we checked out their indoor grill located just a few steps away.  I loved that we didn’t have to leave the park to grab some food!

We ordered a few different items and I was quite pleased with the prices which I thought were fair for a waterpark.  Our homemade pizza and chicken wrap sandwiches were yummy and filling and since we had a refrigerator in our room we even had a place for the leftovers.  If you’re in need of an adult beverage you can head over to the walk-up window of the Lava Lounge or take a seat at the bar.

Located right next to the Lava Lounge is the Black Sands restaurant which will be open soon with a full menu.  It has ample seating room and I’m sure will make a wonderful addition to Maui Sands.

1

Before we turned in for the night, we checked out the FREE ice cream social they were having that evening in the lobby.  They should of called it an “Ice Cream Extravaganza” with all the toppings that were offered.  My kids were in heaven! I thought it was a perfect way to spend the end of our day.

The following morning we had a quick breakfast in our room before heading down for another fun day of swimming.  I heard later that there was a FREE breakfast but I wasn’t told this when checking in so you may want to ask when booking you room.

Once we were done swimming we were able to use the family changing area complete with a changing table, toilet, sink and shower.  It was spacious enough for our family of five and I loved that I were able to all stay together.

Before we left we popped into the arcade area complete with several games and a pool table.  While the games were too old our kids they didn’t seem to mind pretending to play.  If you have older kids this would be a nice place for them to check out.

1

All in all, our stay at Maui Sands Resort and Indoor Waterpark was fabulous!  Yes, it’s a little smaller than one of the huge parks in our area, but that’s one of the BEST things I like about it!  With our boys still being at the age where I must keep a constant eye on them, Maui Sands offers enough attractions for an action-packed day but is still small enough that that I can keep my kids safe.

We also enjoyed that it wasn’t crowded and that we could all ride the slides with very minimal wait time.   I was also delighted to see all the life guards stationed throughout the park and actively engaged .

We will definitely be back!

Please note:  The waterparks new hours: Open Thursday, 4:00 pm through Monday, 1:00 pm, effective April 8th through May 23rd.

Giveaway!

🦁✨ Look behind the stage of Disney's @thelionking 🦁✨ Look behind the stage of Disney's @thelionking at @playhousesquare My son and I saw the show last week, and it completely blew us away. The costumes, the music, the puppetry... it was one of the most incredible productions we've ever seen. ❤️ DON'T be late! The opening number is quite a unique experience. The next morning, we went back for a behind-the-scenes tour, and it made us appreciate the show even more! We learned that some of the masks are made with real horsehair, got to see how the amazing puppets are operated on stage, and discovered one of my favorite fun facts... Zazu's neck is made from a slinky! 🤯 Another fun surprise? Rob Sapp, who plays Ed, one of the hyenas, is from Solon, Ohio! 🙌 I always love hearing about local talent making it to Broadway, and it made the experience even more special knowing there was an Ohio connection. It's amazing how much creativity, engineering, and artistry go into bringing this beloved story to life. Whether you've seen the animated movie once or a hundred times, seeing it on stage is an unforgettable experience. 🎭 Disney's The Lion King is at Playhousesquare through August 16, and I can't recommend it enough.
