angels for kids foundation
In a short amount of time, Angels For Kids Foundation, a local (Amherst, Ohio), non profit organization dedicated to helping children in need, has gained local and national attention. Not only has the Cleveland and Youngstown area news stations and radio stations helped spread the word about the foundation but last year, Founder Shanyn McCourt was in Woman’s Day magazine and now Family Circle has featured her story in the December issue.

Angels for Kids Foundation
Shanyn started the organization when she was a teenager after suffering the loss of not only her grandparents, but her parents as well. In 2009, Shanyn incorporated he dream into a non profit.

Angels For Kids focuses on two events to help homeless and underprivileged children. The Back To School event focuses on improving the self esteem of children that are targeted in school and the Christmas event, provides presents for children that otherwise would not have a Christmas. In addition to the multiple gifts the children receive, they also receive “THE” gift, the one they really want. They also enjoy food, music, dancing, decorating cookies, participating in crafts and even a visit from Santa. Ohio Dance Theatre Presents Cinderella ~ Review + The Nutcracker Dates for Lorain County Performance

October 22, 2013 by racheljk 1 Comment

Ohio Dance Theatre Cinderella
Guest post by Caroline McKinney

One might not associate a Sunday afternoon as “magical”. The word magical is usually reserved for moonlight evenings or midnight strolls. However Sunday September 29th was a truly magical experience as I watched the Ohio Dance Theatre’s presentation of Cinderella with my best girlfriend and our two little girls.

Instead of introducing our girls to the ballet for the first time by driving them all the way to downtown Cleveland, we attended the ballet at the Stocker Center at Lorain County Community College, just minutes from our homes.  I love that we had an opportunity to attend such an event right here in Lorain County.  Before we left for the event we created our tutu’s for the girls to wear to make their afternoon extra special.  Of course coupons were involved with the purchase.

Once we were in our seats we couldn’t wait for the performance to start.  As most little girls do, I grew up on the story of Cinderella and her Prince Charming.  I can vividly remember dancing to the Cinderella record we had and creating my own “performance” for my parents.  As you can see, I was just as excited for the ballet to begin as the little ones were.

The ballet was beautifully performed and the story magnificently depicted. This was no more evident when the crowd let out a collective gasp when Cinderella was driven onto the stage in a delightfully lit carriage and later when the dancers lept and twirled about at The Ball. After the ballet we were invited to meet the dancers where our girls were in awe and eager to capture the moment by taking pictures with them.

In our family we have a term that we often use: “Bread Basket of Life Experiences”. This is often used in reference to collecting less stuff and instead more moments, memories and life experiences that enrich our lives. Sunday September 29th was one of those moments and we would like to thank the Ohio Ballet Theater for the experience, they are definitely going “into our bread basket!”

This might be the weirdest shopping habit that act This might be the weirdest shopping habit that actually saves me money every year. 👀✏️ Because back-to-school season isn’t just for back-to-school shopping! Here are three reasons I always grab a few extras: 1️⃣ Extra for later: I buy extra school supplies NOW while prices are at their lowest so I can restock later in the school year. Those pencils, notebooks and glue sticks always seem to disappear right when the prices go back up! 2️⃣ Office supplies: Back-to-school sales aren’t just for students. 🦁✨ Look behind the stage of Disney's @thelionking 🦁✨ Look behind the stage of Disney's @thelionking at @playhousesquare My son and I saw the show last week, and it completely blew us away. The costumes, the music, the puppetry... it was one of the most incredible productions we've ever seen. ❤️ DON'T be late! The opening number is quite a unique experience. The next morning, we went back for a behind-the-scenes tour, and it made us appreciate the show even more! We learned that some of the masks are made with real horsehair, got to see how the amazing puppets are operated on stage, and discovered one of my favorite fun facts... Zazu's neck is made from a slinky! 🤯 Another fun surprise? Rob Sapp, who plays Ed, one of the hyenas, is from Solon, Ohio! 🙌 I always love hearing about local talent making it to Broadway, and it made the experience even more special knowing there was an Ohio connection. It's amazing how much creativity, engineering, and artistry go into bringing this beloved story to life. Whether you've seen the animated movie once or a hundred times, seeing it on stage is an unforgettable experience. 🎭 Disney's The Lion King is at Playhousesquare through August 16, and I can't recommend it enough. If it's on your bucket list, now's the time! 💛 Have you seen The Lion King on stage? Or tell me your favorite Broadway show in the comments! 👇 #bwycle #thelionking #clevelandmom #ohiofindithere
