Sesame Street Live Make a New Friend is playing at Playhouse Square, State Theater now through March 19th. On Thursday, I took my boys who are 4, 7 and 9 and we are all LOVED the show! Sesame Street Live: Make a New Friend is fun, upbeat, and makes for a fun family outing.
I and probably many of you, grew up watching and loving Sesame Street. It’s where I was introduced to the alphabet, counting and how to be a friend. I just love that I can share that love with my own children. This is our third year seeing Sesame Street live and I find it so special seeing my kids smile, laugh and dance along with some of my “old friends”.
During the show the Sesame Street friends Elmo, Grover, Abby Cadabby, and others welcome Chamki, Grover’s friend from India. Together, they explore the universal fun of friendship and celebrate cultural similarities, from singing and dancing, to sharing cookies! Throughout the show my kids were smiling, laughing and dancing in their seats; yep, even my nine year old!
While we go every year (see picture below), this year’s show was hands down my favorite! I loved the mix of contemporary songs set to kid-friendly words such as a spoof on Katy Perry’s Hot & Cold, Count’s version of a Bruno Mars song, and a funny version of Moves Like Jagger talking about pigeons and triangles! Of course the chance to learn while still having fun will always get this mama’s approval!
My favorite number was the towards the end when Chamki and dancers came out dressed in traditional Indian outfits and sang and danced to Indian music. My oldest son’s eye got really big and he asked, “When can we go to India? That looks like FUN!” I applaud Sesame Street to introducing this beautiful culture to my kiddos!
This show keeps the little ones entertained from start to finish with about a 20 minute intermission in between two high energy packed sessions. If you are sitting down in the first section your kiddos may even have the opportunity to interact with the characters that come down into the crowd so grabbing an end seat may be best.
While you are at the show, don’t forget to take LOTS of pictures! Since this is our third year attending, it was so fun to look back on previous years show and reflect. Take pictures before the show, during the show and after! Sesame Street Live Make A New Friend is the perfect outing with your kids and they’ll have memories to last a lifetime!
