Cedar Point Frontier Festival

Cedar Point has proven that they know how to throw a party with their past festival, Brew and BBQ and this year is no different! Cedar Point’s new Frontier Festival offers a sunflower-inspired street festival with local artisans, kids’ crafts and games, continuous live entertainment and wild food and drink to sample and savor.

Last weekend, I loaded up my van with my family and a few of my boys’ friends and we headed out to Cedar Point to check out the festival. Most of us have Cedar Point season passes and one thing we LOVE about them is the opportunity to go out for a few hours in the evening when the weather is cooler.

Located in Frontier Town, this sunflower themed festival, will make you feel like you’ve stepped into old west. The gorgeous decor is abundant from potted plants, barrels, flowers and more. Best of all Frontier Festival is for families! If you want to visit, you’ll want to hurry as this festival run daily through June 30, 2019. Keep in mind that while the park opens much earlier this daily festival starts at 4:00 pm.

At the Cedar Point Frontier Festival, guests have the opportunity to nibble
specialty food items made right on the midway. These foods include items like two-meat barbeque baked beans, fire roasted chicken drums, and smoked wings. There are even delectable desserts. Guests can wash the wild food down with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage samples, including craft brews, ciders, wines and handcrafted lemonades.

The Frontier Festival features a ticketing system for samples. For $25 (passholders), $28 (everyone else), guests receive 20 tickets redeemable for food and beverage when purchasing online.

While the festival is family friendly, with kids events such a a pie walk, horse racing and even a pie eating contest, my friends and I enjoyed a “Moms Night Out”. We sat in the comfy chairs located all over the area, listened to music, chatted about our kiddos and sipped an nibbled for hours. It was a wonderful night!

While there was a lot of food that we liked one of our favorites of the night was the Great Plains Bison Chili with Wild Berry Multi Grain Boule (2 tickets). It was served warm and was full of flavor. It’s very mild, which will appeal to a wide audience.

The Fire Roasted Chicken Drums with Wild Flower Honey BBQ or Carolina Gold BBQ (1 ticket) and Sweet and Sassy Smoked Wings (2 tickets) were also really good. The skin on both were crispy but the chicken was still soft and juicy inside. It was delicious!

Another top pick was the Pulled Pork Slider with Molasses BBQ Sauce (2 tickets). Guests can get the pulled pork with or without a slider bun, and pair it with their choice of sauces. I thought the bun was perfect with this slider and the pork was so tender.

After dinner, be sure to save a few tickets for dessert. We sampled the Wild Strawberry Short Cake with Fresh Berries, Angel Food Cake, Whipped Topping (2 tickets) and the Layered Blueberry Crumb Cake with Fresh Berries, Crumb Cake, Sweet Cream (2 tickets). These were both so good we went back and got more!

This years Frontier Festival, featuring 33 beers, 9 wines and 6 ciders. Samples of alcohol are 1 ticket, full servings are 3 tickets. Some of the featured drinks are beers such as Columbus Bodhi IPA, New Belgium and Juicifer IPA; wines such as Butternut Chardonnay and Ritas Spritz Rose; and ciders such as Down East Aloha Friday and McKenzie’s Black Cherry.

While sampling, my girlfriends and I listened to the live entertainment and couldn’t help but tap our toes. There are several bands playing throughout the festival such as Grand ole’ Pickers, Backwoods Pickers and Loop Rawlins. The evening we were there, they also had karaoke, dancing, and lively characters roaming. Some of us even country line danced (I have video to prove it!)

If you love walking through the Frontier shops, the Cedar Point Frontier Festival is the place to be. They have several booths with special exhibitors and live demonstrations. In addition, their are local artisans selling their items and at great prices too.

I really enjoyed seeing how family friendly the Frontier Festival is and how many activities it has to include the whole family. There were couples there on dates, families enjoying the music, teens chowing on food and smiles all around.

Even though our kiddos were off riding coasters (they think that is more fun than hanging out with us… as if! 🙂 ) we all remarked how we’ll have to have them come back and check out the festival too!
