Last week I was able to see a screening of Me Before You with a bunch of my readers. I was given screening passes to giveaway on my blog which were gone quickly. This proves that so many of you were just as excited to see this as I was!
Me Before You has been on my radar for over six months when a friend called me weeping to tell me about a book that she had just finished. The movie based on the popular book by JoJo Moyes is your proverbial girl’s night out movie. It would also make a great date night if you can talk him into it!
Will is handsome, rich and a newly quadriplegic. Louisa is spunky, totally broke, and takes a job as his companion — not as his nurse, but as someone for him to talk to. Will is wallowing in his new lifestyle and makes it hard to anyone around him to get to know him. Predictably, it rough going at the start, but then things get better, and, over the course of a few months, they develop a bond.
Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen from “Game of Throne”) is Lou. Unlike her character in Game of Thrones, she’s simply adorable with a fun fashion sense and an undeniable outlook on life. She completely makes the movie and pulls you in from the start. In fact I think most viewers will leave the movie feeling like they could totally be her “bestie”!
Sam Claftin plays Will Traynor who is struggling to find peace with his wheelchair. Will rarely smiles but then Lou enters his life and everything changes. I waited patiently for Will’s smile and once he did that awesome dimple of his made an appearance. When it finally did the screen lit up and so did I! What a handsome fellow!
The romance between Lou and Will is slow but the movie does a great job creating small scenes that makes us root for these to crazy kids to fall in love. They both attempt to help the other grow and live life outside of his or her comfort zone. This vulnerability leads to intimate moments which leads to love and I enjoyed every step of the journey.
While this will be a weepy movie for some (don’t forget the tissues) I think you’ll laugh more than you will cry. In fact, you will laugh so much that you may miss the next line of dialog. Believe me there were times I almost spit out my drink! Embrace the laughter through tears and don’t miss this movie.
