FUN Things To Do on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Northeast Ohio
Martin Luther King Day is next Monday and for most kids that means a day off of school! For the past few years, I’ve created a list of Fun Things To Do on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Northeast Ohio, so I went through and confirmed them again for you.
If you spot one that’s not on my list let me know and I’ll add it. Keep in mind that these museums will be busy since FREE/cheap admission will usually draw a crowd.
FREE Admission:
- Free admission
- Enjoy activities and crafts provided by the NAACP
- Kids between the ages of 6-12 years old are invited to join us at Splash Zone on Monday, January 15, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. We will have crafts, activities, games, and swimming. All kids should bring a brown bag lunch, towels, swimsuit, and goggles. Pre-registration is required and limited spots are available. Registration fee is only $7 for members and $10.50 for non-members. Read more here.
Lake Erie Nature and Science Center (Bay Village)
Lake Erie Nature & Science Center provides FREE admission seven days a week and performs wildlife rehabilitation at no charge to the public. The Center offers quality nature, environmental and science experiences through school field trips, preschool, family, scouting and planetarium programs, nature hikes and a variety of wildlife exhibits, along with domestic and wildlife close encounters. I called and confirmed that they are open on Monday.
Celebration Concert at Severance Hall:
- Free community open house
- Offering instrmental, vocal, and dance performances from 12 – 5. No tickets required
- FREE general admission
- Experience hundreds of hands-on science exhibits
- Have a ball in the Polymer Funhouse (ages 7 and under)
- Enjoy live demonstrations throughout the day
- Tour the NASA Glenn Visitor Center
FREE admission day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 15, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The museum will offer a day filled with live performances, education programs and family activities that will highlight how people use music to find their voice and create a sense of community.
Cleveland Museum of Natural History
- Free Museum admission from 10 – 4.
- Mini planetarium shows: $1 per person
- Curators will talk with guests outside of their labs and show specimens that are not usually on display
Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage
- FREE admission day.
- See how iconic civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., and everyday citizens risked everything to change America in the This Light of Ours: Activist Photographers of the Civil Rights Movement exhibition, share a cause you stand for and hear music from Roots of American Music and The Evelyn Wright Quartet (NOON- 1PM) and ON THE ONE (2-3PM) on this family-friendly day.
- FREE museum admission and activities (11 – 4).
International Women’s Air & Space Museum
- FREE Admission on Monday, January 15, 2018; 10am-4pm
- 10% Discount at the Gift Shop
FREE Ice Fest at North Coast Harbor
- Free one day event on Monday, January 15, 2018
- More than a dozen ice displays will be set up on the walk way between the Science Center and Rock Hall.
- Meet & Greet The Snow Sisters (photo op and face painting) until 12:00pm
Penitentiary Glen Nature Center

From 10 – 3, enjoy indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts, a nature craft, X-Plorer packs filled with hands-on seasonal activities and animal encounters.
Discounted Admission
- Guests who choose to donate $1 or more to the United Black Fund of Greater Cleveland will receive a $10 admission ticket to the Aquarium for THAT day only.
- The discount includes both adults and children.
