May 24, 2018 by racheljk 1 Comment

EVENT FULL!!!

The highly anticipated reboot, OCEAN’S 8, is hitting theaters! The film stars an A-list cast including; Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter.

You have a chance to see an advance screening of the film on Monday, June 4th at Cinemark Valley View at 7:00 PM. Be fast and grab your passes! They will go fast!

Cleveland Advance Screening OCEAN’S 8

Synopsis:

Five years, eight months, 12 days…and counting. That’s how long Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) has been devising the biggest heist of her life.

She knows what it’s going to take—a team of the best in their field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller (Cate Blanchett). Together, they recruit a crew of specialists: jeweler Amita (Kaling); street con Constance (Awkwafina); expert fence Tammy (Paulson); hacker Nine Ball (Rihanna); and fashion designer Rose (Bonham Carter).

The target is a cool $150 million dollars in diamonds—diamonds that will be around the neck of world-famous actress Daphne Kluger (Hathaway), who will be centerstage at the event of the year, the Met Gala.

The plan is rock solid, but everything will need to be flawless if the team is going to get in and get away with the ice. All in plain sight.

Top Three Gift Ideas for Teachers

gift ideas for teachers

Teacher Gifts!

Are you scratching your head on what to get your child’s teacher?  What better gift ideas can you get but from a teacher herself! Here is a few teacher gift ideas that reader, Rachel H. shared:

If you haven’t already bought a gift for your child’s teacher, and plan to do so, may I give you some advice? I’ve been a teacher for 16 years, and have received plenty of gifts over the years.

First of all, let me say that no matter the gift, chocolate covered pretzels, candles, holiday décor, etc. it is wonderful to be thought of at all. But if you would like to really make your teacher’s day, here are a few ideas.

1. Bargain Gifts: Write your teacher a heart felt thank you for the countless hours of hard work they do on behalf of your child. Don’t just sign a card, write a paragraph and be specific in your affirmation. This will help them to know in what ways they are doing well. (Even if you’re not a huge fan of the teacher, write them a note about something they do well. This will only help your relationship and make your teacher even further invested in your child.) I keep all of the nice notes and letters that I’ve ever gotten. They don’t take up much space, and when I’m feeling defeated they really lift my spirits and help me to keep going.

2. Gift Cards: Teachers spend a lot of their own money on bringing extra things into the classroom. Buy them a gift card for a teacher store, Staples, Walmart or Target, etc. You could even go crazy and get them a gift card to a restaurant or to Bath & Body Works. If you buy the gift card at Giant Eagle, you’re still earning fuel perks. One of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten was a $5 Walmart gift card. It was from another teacher. I knew they didn’t have a lot of money, but they still wanted to show their appreciation. While I loved the practicality of the $100 check I got several years ago, I was more touched by the $5 gift card.

3. Something Practical.  Have your child do some investigation. Have them ask the teacher’s favorite color, store, restaurant, whatever, to get some ideas. Really, you could even give them some of your stockpile I wouldn’t do deodorant in case they get offended but do write a note explaining how you save money by using coupons and how you wanted to give them something they could really use. Who knows, you may even turn them into a coupon believer. If you scored a few extra Hasbro games, that might make an awesome gift too for their classroom.

What to avoid:

Itens with your child’s name on them.  The candies and goodies are yummy, but most teachers end up taking these home to share with family on top of what they already traditionally make. My hubby usually eats 80% of what I bring home.
If you’ve read this far, then you’ve gotten some ideas. I promise, I’m not trying to sound ungrateful. I just figure that there may be a few people out there still thinking, “What am I going to give the teacher?”

A HUGE thanks to Rachel Haney for sharing!

Free Summer Reading Programs

May 23, 2018 by norayoung Leave a Comment

There are a LOT of great programs that your children can take advantage of to earn FREE books, prizes, and cash!

Junie B Jones Reading Club – Sign up and get a FREE starter Kit that includes a copy of Junie B Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus, Activity sheets and a membership ID card while supplies last.

Book Adventure – Sylvan offers this FREE reading incentive program. Basically your child reads books and then takes a simple comprehension quiz to make sure they understood what they read. The quiz is usually about 10 questions long. They earn points based on how much they remember from reading the book.

There are hundreds of books to choose from in all reading levels. These are common books that can be found at your local library. Once they have earned enough points they can trade them in for some really neat prizes!

Showcase Cinemas Bookworm Wednesdays – Your child can earn a FREE movie ticket from National Amusements Theaters when they read a book and complete a book report.

Barnes & Noble Imagination Destination – This summer reading program through Barnes & Noble gives your child the ability to earn a FREE book after reading 8 books and keeping track of them in a reading log.

Local Public Library – Don’t forget to check out your local libraries to find out which programs they’ll be offering this summer. My kids have participated in several Summer reading Programs through the library and it always includes FREE books & prizes.

TD Bank Summer Reading Program – Read and keep track of 10 books this summer and your child will get $10 added to their Young Saver Account FREE!

Chuck E. Cheese – Earn FREE tokens every time your child reads. Just print out the bookmarks which are each worth 5 FREE tokens and bring it in to claim your free tokens.

Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge – Log in your reading minutes to the Scholastic site and your child will be able to participate in a World Record challenge as well as earn digital prizes!

Six Flags Read to Succeed – K-6 students who complete six hours of non-school-related reading approved by their parents and teachers are eligible for free admission to their nearest theme park.

Would you dare give someone a thrifted gift? 👀 👇👇 Would you dare give someone a thrifted gift? 👀 👇👇👇 Hear me out... I needed a housewarming gift for a friend who just moved into a new home, so I headed to @voathrift, instead of a big box store. I walked out with a basket full of adorable finds! 🏡🛍️ The best part? Several of the items were brand new! From cute home décor to kitchen goodies, I found thoughtful gifts for a fraction of what I would have spent buying everything new. I truly think it's less about where a gift comes from and more about the thought behind it. 💙 So tell me... would you thrift a gift for someone? Or have you already? I'd love to hear your thoughts! 😊 #ThriftFinds #VolunteersOfAmerica #ThriftStore #HousewarmingGift #SecondhandStyle
