THE SCHOOL OF FASHION PRESENTS THE 2024 ANNUAL FASHION SHOW

Hey locals! The nationally and internationally ranked Kent State University School of Fashion is thrilled to announce that its acclaimed Annual Fashion Show will take place April 25-27, 2024, in the Kent Student Center Ballroom on the Kent Campus.

The 2024 Annual Fashion Show features 163 looks from 42 designers whose collections and single-submission garments were chosen by a panel of industry critics and jurors for inclusion in this year’s show. The collections and garments span all categories of fashion and include evening wear, market ready, universal design and more.

.

The annual Fashion Show, led by senior co-producers Daniella Byrnes and Mackenzie Karsten, is the largest event undertaken by the School of Fashion each year. Faculty members Joanne Arnett and Sue Yoder are faculty co-directors of the show. The production includes participation by School of Fashion students who serve on committees in design, merchandising, modeling, public relations and stage.

Starting with the collection review process in the fall semester, the designers in residence work alongside students to refine their garments and collections. The School of Fashion 2023-2024 designers in residence are Marla Cotten and Geoffrey Henning. Industry critics are also brought in to view and critique the students’ work. The 2024 B.F.A. critic is Alicia Hardesty.

The collections and single-submission garments included in the Fashion Show are eligible to win the following awards: Best in Show Award, Circular Economy Award, Construction Technique Award, Fashion Show Management Award, Innovation Award, Knitwear Award, Market Ready Award, Niche Market Award, Special Occasions Award, Student’s Choice Award, Sustainable Design Award, TechStyleLAB Award, and Universal Design Award.

On Saturday, April 27, the School of Fashion will host its Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Previous inductees include Omar Salam, Kenneth Cole, Estee Lauder, Oscar de la Renta, Dana Buchman, Leonardo Ferragamo, and Josie Natori.

.

The School of Fashion at Kent State University is pleased to announce British designer Dame Zandra Rhodes as the 2024 Hall of Fame Inductee.

“I am thrilled and honored to have been invited by Kent State’s School of Fashion to be their 2024 Hall of Fame Inductee. It is a real privilege to become part of their fabulous community – I very much look forward to meeting all of the wonderful students and teachers,” said Rhodes.

Rhodes will give an artist lecture at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26 in Rockwell Hall to Kent State University students, industry and fashion enthusiasts. This lecture is free and open to the public.

One of my FAVORITE nights of the summer happened r One of my FAVORITE nights of the summer happened right here in Lorain County! 🎶 [ad] Last week, @lormetcreditunion, a presenting sponsor of @rockinontheriver, invited me out for such a fun night! I got to help hand out giveaways, meet so many of YOU in person, and partner with a company I already personally use and trust. I love seeing how much LorMet gives back to our local community, and whenever I’ve have a question, they’ve always been just a phone call away. After the meet and greet, I popped up ON STAGE and toss T-shirts into the crowd! 🙌 We all LOVE freebies!! I ended the night hanging out with friends and enjoying the concert. Such a great summer night and an event I’ll absolutely be back to! Have you ever been to Rockin’ on the River? 🎸🎤 #LorMetCommunityCreditUnion #RockinOnTheRiver #LorainOhio #LorainCounty

This might be the weirdest shopping habit that act This might be the weirdest shopping habit that actually saves me money every year. 👀✏️ Because back-to-school season isn’t just for back-to-school shopping! Here are three reasons I always grab a few extras: 1️⃣ Extra for later: I buy extra school supplies NOW while prices are at their lowest so I can restock later in the school year. Those pencils, notebooks and glue sticks always seem to disappear right when the prices go back up! 2️⃣ Office supplies: Back-to-school sales aren’t just for students. NOW is the time to stock your home office and grab supplies for work because some of the best office-supply deals happen during this season. 3️⃣ Donations: I love donating supplies to my kids’ classroom teachers, especially when they were younger. Plus, @voathrift is participating in Operation Backpack! Donate school supplies or gently used items through July 31, and you’ll receive a 30% off coupon to use in-store during August! 🎒💛 Do you buy extra school supplies too, or only what’s on the list? 👇 #BackToSchool #SchoolSupplyDeals #OperationBackpack #volunteersofamerica

🦁✨ Look behind the stage of Disney's @thelionking 🦁✨ Look behind the stage of Disney's @thelionking at @playhousesquare My son and I saw the show last week, and it completely blew us away. The costumes, the music, the puppetry... it was one of the most incredible productions we've ever seen. ❤️ DON'T be late! The opening number is quite a unique experience. The next morning, we went back for a behind-the-scenes tour, and it made us appreciate the show even more! We learned that some of the masks are made with real horsehair, got to see how the amazing puppets are operated on stage, and discovered one of my favorite fun facts... Zazu's neck is made from a slinky! 🤯 Another fun surprise? Rob Sapp, who plays Ed, one of the hyenas, is from Solon, Ohio! 🙌 I always love hearing about local talent making it to Broadway, and it made the experience even more special knowing there was an Ohio connection. It's amazing how much creativity, engineering, and artistry go into bringing this beloved story to life. Whether you've seen the animated movie once or a hundred times, seeing it on stage is an unforgettable experience. 🎭 Disney's The Lion King is at Playhousesquare through August 16, and I can't recommend it enough. If it's on your bucket list, now's the time! 💛 Have you seen The Lion King on stage? Or tell me your favorite Broadway show in the comments! 👇 #bwycle #thelionking #clevelandmom #ohiofindithere
