Zachary Levi plays Joseph and Gina Rodriguez plays Mary in Sony’s THE STAR.
I had so much fun in Hollywood last week for the movie, THE STAR! While there, I was able to interview a few stars of the movie as well as the director of the film. This movie is in theaters this weekend and it’s a must-see! Check out my The Star movie review!
When Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez walked in the room it was like I was meeting with a couple of old friends. They were down to earth, relaxed and grinning from ear to ear. While Gina was a bit under the weather, she kept the interview light-hearted and she and Zachary joked throughout about spreading germs back and forth with many high fives throughout the interview.
They both talked about their faith and how it impacted their decision to play in this movie. Zachary stated, “I think as far as the preparation for playing Joseph, growing up in the Judeo Christian faith my whole life, that was plenty of preparation I think. You know, reading about that story, specifically seeing that story, we have seen that story told so many times.”
During the interview they both shared how they love how THE STAR gives the nativity story a “fresh” new look since it’s being told by the animals. Gina described THE STAR as, “beautifully done” and in a “hopeful way”. I couldn’t agree more!
Patricia Heaton sat down with us to talk about her role as Edith the cow. Right from the beginning she shared about being from Cleveland, Ohio (Bay Village) and how people said that she had a slight Midwestern accent. It was fun to tell her we too were from the Cleveland area and we chatted about how close we lived to her hometown. It was fun to learn that her son attend Ohio State too!
My son was able to ask her about when she started acting and Patricia shared how even as a little girl on the playground she loved to entertain. It wasn’t until after she started college though that she decided to persue acting and venture out on her own.
Patricia shared how being a Christian impacted her in this movie. She said, “I think it is always nice, if you are a Christian, to have something out there, especially at Christmas time, since that is what Christmas is about, to remind people of that. To feel like you can put something out there for the whole family and the story of Christmas is what I base my entire life on, and all my hope. So it is nice to have that story out there to share with people.”
Patricia shared how she how she think how kids will react to the the movie. “Kids love animals and it’s a new fresh way to look at the story. I think that’s what is going to be so much fun, they relate to them.” She also talked about how she is glad THE STAR will become a holiday tradition for families. “To have an actual nativity story about Christmas, at Christmas, is a wonderful addition to this whole sort of library we have as Americans of our traditional Christmas movies.”
Have you taken your family to see THE STAR yet? It’s in theaters everywhere! It’s time to get in the Christmas spirit!
