Two weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend the Giant Eagle Market District grand opening in Green, Ohio. Having never visited a Market District store I was very excited to see both the similarities and differences to my regular Giant Eagle store. As I stepped in the store I was blown away by the options that Market District stores can provide it’s customers. I quickly saw that shopping at a Market District store is more an experience than just your average grocery trip.

Located right next to the expansive, two story eatery (you have to see the store view from upstairs) Market District Green offers a wide variety of food that is easy to order in or to-go. With so many choices, such as a scrumptious salad bar filled with over 60 items, a made to order sub shop, sushi bar, and brick oven pizza you may find it hard to decide. The Market District Green eatery area also offers FREE Wi-fi. How convenient is that?
One refreshing difference that I noticed between a regular Giant Eagle store and a Market District store is how much more Market District can offer it’s customer’s. For instance, throughout the week, on-staff chef give cooking demonstrations in their own in-store test kitchen and can even give you tips if a recipe has you stumped. They also weekly events such as their 6/$6 promo at their own in-house wine bar. With this promotion, you can sample six different wines and appetizers for only $6. Best of all Market District Green has an Eagle’s Nest childcare facility that is FREE for it’s customers. With so many options to choose from (see events calendar), you just may want to include a Market District store into your upcoming date night.

As we walked around the store, I was tickled pink by all the exotic ingredients that Market District Green had readily available. Items such as Emu and duck eggs, specialty mushrooms, dragon fruit, and buddha’s hand were all there, but best of all they were right next to everyday ingredients. No need to shop at three different stores for all of your gourmet needs, Market District Green has it all in one place.
When we checked out the meat department I was amazed that the meat case was filled with items such as rattlesnake, wild boar, and rabbit. While these items won’t be on my grocery list, I loved that they are available for expert cooks or someone wanting to try something new.
A heavenly aroma brought me over to the Sweet Shoppe area which was filled with more sweet treats than I’ve ever seen before. Market District Green makes it easy for you to plan your next party by selecting one of their pre-made desserts or by letting them customize one for you. This area even boasts it’s own cotton candy machine…my kids would of been in heaven!
For you money savers out there, you’ll be happy to know that Market District Green still offers the Giant Eagle weekly deals as well as follows the corporate Giant Eagle coupon policy. This means that coupons still double and FuelPerks can still be earned.
To help celebrate the Market District Green grand opening, celebrity chef, Tyler Florence was on hand to sign books for hundreds of fans. Before hand, a group of us bloggers were able to attend a special meet and greet and chat with him about our goals and future plans. It was so great to chat with such a down-to-earth guy and hear a little about his own life experiences. He encouraged all of us pursue our dreams and to think big!
Overall, I LOVED the new Market District store. With it’s easy layout, and abundance of options it made me feel like I was shopping at a higher end store while still being able to get the discounts and savings that Giant Eagle is known for. While there are currently 4 Market District stores in Ohio, there are two in northeast Ohio; Solon and Green. Since both are still a little far for me, I was excited to learn that a new Market District store will be coming to Strongsville, Ohio in 2014. I can’t wait!
