FREE Family Activities for Martin Luther King Day in Northeast Ohio

Martin Luther King Day is tomorrow (1/20) and for most kids that means a day off of school!  Last year I created a list of FREE activities so I went through and confirmed them again for you.

If you don’t live in northeast Ohio be sure to call your local museums to see if they are also offering discounted admission.  Keep in mind that these museums will be busy since FREE/cheap admission will usually draw a crowd.

FREE Admission:

Lorain County MetroParks

Sandy Ridge Reservation

Campfire cooking, dogsled demos, and many outdoor winter activities – FREE.   Snowshoe rentals for $2.00 per hour.

Columbia Reservation – Columbia Station

Come see some of our mounted animals and birds! 11;00 -12:00 FREE

Lake Erie Nature and Science Center (Bay Village)

Lake Erie Nature & Science Center provides FREE admission seven days a week and performs wildlife rehabilitation at no charge to the public. The Center offers quality nature, environmental and science experiences through school field trips, preschool, family, scouting and planetarium programs, nature hikes and a variety of wildlife exhibits, along with domestic and wildlife close encounters.  I called and confirmed that they are open on Monday.

Great Lakes Science Center

  • Experience hundreds of hands-on science exhibits
  • Have a ball in the Polymer Funhouse (ages 7 and under)
  • Enjoy live demonstrations throughout the day
  • Tour the BioMedTech Gallery
  • And so much more!

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum is pleased to host the 13th annual FREE admission day in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The museum will offer a day filled with live performances, education programs and family activities that will highlight how people use music to find their voice and create a sense of community.

Cleveland Museum of Natural History

  • Free Museum admission all day.
  • Mini planetarium shows: $1 per person
  • Nature’s Mating Games: $3 members; $5 nonmembers

Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage

Honor the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day at our annual free admission day.  Join us at 1:30 for a special musical presentation followed by the premier of Conversation After a Funeral, a new one-act play by Cleveland playwright and poet Dr. Mary Weems.  Guided tours will be available throughout the day.

Western Reserve Historical Society History Center

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day the Western Reserve Historical Society History Center AND Research Library will be OPEN to the public for FREE. Special programming will be announced at a later date.

Please note that although admission to the History Center is free, there is a charge for special event parking.

Discounted Admission

Mercy Health & Recreation Center - Amherst

Have you ever wondered how or where your family can volunteer in your community? Organizations will be on hand to give information and answer questions. Afterwards stay for activities and family swim time. Admission is $3.50/person and a donation of hats or gloves.

Greater Cleveland Aquarium
                       *  Adult admission will be $15.95 for adults and $9.95 for children.  Kids under 2 are always FREE.

1/2 price at The Children’s Museum of Cleveland

Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with your community at The Children’s Museum of Cleveland. Admission is 1/2 price ($4.00) and we will be honoring Dr. King with a special Peace Mural.
